Discover the scenic beauty of the Great Wicomico River with Captain Forrest Dameron aboard the “Nassawadox”, a genuine 37’ Chesapeake Bay dead rise. Captain Dameron is a 4th generation waterman that has worked the rivers and creeks of the lower Northern Neck of Virginia his entire life. He and his family are actively engaged in oystering (both dredging and cage-raised aquaculture) and crabbing, and own and operate their own shucking house and seafood restaurant in Kilmarnock, VA. Captain Dameron also holds a pilot’s license and has flown “spotter” planes for other local captains in the regional menhaden fishery historically centered in the Reedville area. He brings this wealth of knowledge of the history and culture of the area, bay fisheries, ecology and local lore into every one of his personalized tours.
Take an intimate, leisurely tour of the area with up to 6 people aboard an authentic dead rise, the official boat of the Commonwealth of Virginia. See the Reedville historic area from the water, visit Penny Creek Oyster Farms, view the active working menhaden fleet of vessels in Cockrell Creek or tailor a customized tour to meet your specific needs. Experience the lower Northern Neck of Virginia up-close and personal through the eyes of an authentic working waterman – book your next watermen’s heritage tour with Captain Forrest Dameron (and remember to top off your day with a visit to the family restaurant for the “freshest seafood in town”)!
